French Bread Pizza

French Bread Pizza

French Bread is great for many things, including Pizza…

1 Loaf French Bread

1 6-Ounce Can Tomato Paste

1/3 Cup Parmesan Cheese

¼ Cup Finely Chopped Green Onion (optional)*

¼ Cup Ripe Olives

½ tsp Dried Oregano, crushed

¾ tsp Salt

1 Pound Hamburger or Sausage (or whatever meat pizza topping you like)

2 Tomatoes, sliced

1 Green Pepper (optional)*

1 Cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese (4 ounces)

1/8 tsp Black Pepper

*I marked the green onions and green peppers as optional because I do not like these on my pizza, so be creative and use your favorite toppings

FIRST Brown Ground Hamburger or Sausage and drain fat

SECOND Combine the tomato paste, Parmesan cheese, onion, olives, oregano, salt and pepper

THIRD Add meat and mix well

FOURTH Cut the French Bread loaf in half lengthwise

FIFTH Cut each half of bread into about four pieces (depending on the size you want for each slice)

SIXTH Spread the meat mixture onto each slice

SEVENTH Place on a baking sheet and bake at 400 F for 20 minutes

EIGHTH Remove from oven and top with tomatoes, green pepper slices and cheese; bake 5 minutes more

This recipe is inspired from my personal cookbook collection, Cooks’ Delight, Charity Hogeye Picnic (1985)
